Until the end of July 2003, students who are not visa
nationals could choose whether to apply for entry
clearance or not. Students would consider this if
their course lasted for six months or less, if they
were applying as a prospective student or they were
bringing their family with them.
Students who chose this option had to satisfy the
Immigration Officer at the port of entry that they
fulfilled the Immigration Rules for students. Entry
clearances that are issued to people who are not visa
nationals are called entry certificates- rather than
visas. There is a charge for the application.
